Chaos Terrain: The Mission That Started It All
When I first started writing Chaos Terrain, I wasn’t trying to launch a universe. I was chasing a single idea — one "what if" that kept pulling at me no matter what else I was doing - for 30 years.
That mission was simple on the surface: Send a crew to Europa and find out what’s beneath the ice. But the moment I started writing, it became clear the story wasn’t simple at all.
Where the Story Truly Begins
At the center of Chaos Terrain is Dr. Todd Cunningham — a propulsion scientist who should have gone to space years ago. Budget cuts and politics killed his mission, buried his career, and left him teaching instead of exploring.
That tension — between what he should have been and what he was forced to become — is where the book started for me.
Then came the second twist: The very man who ended his NASA career is the one who pulls him back into the spotlight. A new mission. A new crew. A second chance he never expected.
Europa: The Terrain That Doesn’t Care About You
Europa is not a friendly place. It’s cold, hostile, unpredictable — a frozen moon hiding an ocean that may contain alien life.
Once the crew arrives, everything shifts. The terrain becomes a character. The unknown becomes the threat.
The mission to uncover alien life quickly turns perilous, and every step forward forces the crew to confront treacherous conditions, unseen dangers, and the ghosts each of them brought with them.
Why This Book Matters to Me
Chaos Terrain is built on real science — fusion propulsion, Europa’s geology, the physics of deep‑space travel — but it’s also built on something more personal. It is a second chance to do something I always wanted. This debut novel allowed me to step into the unknown world of writing.
The Moment I Knew It Was Bigger Than One Book
I knew early on that I would have to tell more of the story at some point. I tried to deny it and told everyone, "There will be no sequel." But I knew Chaos Terrain wasn’t a standalone story. The consequences were bigger and the characters had more to say.
Starlight Event is the Chaos Terrain sequel, and it unravels the threads we left behind, exposes twists you might have missed and adds a few along the way. It will be a good story and I hope you love it.
